    Creatively Speaking – Coulson Macleod

It’s Friday and time for another interview with one of the fab creatives that I have featured on my little blog.  Mark Coulson and Hannah Macleod, AKA Coulson Macleod kindly agreed to have a little chat, so grab a cuppa and enjoy. Oh, and if you are stuck for what to cook for dinner then they have some fab recipes which are perfect for us Aussies just starting to come into Autumn! How would you describe your work and style? Simple design that reflects our own taste. We’re not

    Cup Cake Tastic

It was one of those moments where the landline, mobile phone and doorbell go at the same time.  In an effort to try and get to everyone you speak before your brain engages….. and well… one of the calls was from my sister in law asking if I would mind baking a few cupcakes for my Nieces 21st… Famous last words….”of course not… I would love to….” …..” so how many? …… “Oh about 100” was the response… Oh C**p…. oh well what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger….. and believe me I

Creatively Speaking – Brendan Young and Vanessa Battaglia

Photographer Max Jamieson I recently posted on the amazing faux cow hide rugs created by design duo Young and Battaglia. As I delved in to a little bit more about the duo’s background I found out that they are based about 10 minutes from where I grew up as a child in a small town called St Neots, Cambridgeshire… Unfortunately being in Sydney they are no longer just round the corner, but I was fortunate enough to have Brendan agree to an interview (through the marvels of techn

    Creatively Speaking – Le Sorelle

Last year I posted on Le Sorelle a business which was created by four sisters and their parents in Tuscany Italy. Gemma and her mother have kindly agreed to be interviewed, and I thought a little escapism to Tuscany would be good for us all after the Christmas break and the reality of getting back to work.  So sit back and grab yourself a cup of tea…. Thankfully their English is beta than my Italian! How did Le Sorelle come about? The name of our store was an idea of our youn

“Five Gold Rings” – The Icing on The Cake

Now this is not technically 5 gold rings…. more like one iced fruitcake circle really, but what is a couple of gold rings between posts! Well having made the cake, and still being inspired by my Heineken cake effort, I thought I would take the plunge and have a go at icing the christmas cake so that I can check another thing off the Christmas preparation todo list. Now the biggest decision to make was whether to go plain or novelty….. following the KISS theory, and for the sa

“Three French Hens” – If I had known you were coming I would have baked a cake!

I just want to pre-empt that no French Hens were hurt in the creation of this Christmas Cake…. (I am just making the most from my stamping efforts from Monday’s post!!)… You really know Christmas has arrived in our home when the smell of whisky fermenting fruit is simmering on the stove, followed by the spices of cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and citrus baking away slowly in the oven for a few hours…. yummo.  Now I am sure many of you have your own recipe, but if you don’t I can h

Creatively Speaking – Adam Jones – Quercus and Co

I have posted a couple of posts on Quercus & Co which is a newly established wallpaper company in Sydney.  Adam Jones the founder and creative talent behind the beautiful wallpaper has kindly agreed for me to interview him and, well time to grab a cuppa, sit back and relax and read on…… How would you describe your work and style? “I started Quercus & Co earlier this year to design and print wallpaper. I love pattern in general but it’s the all-surrounding eye bending nature o

Creatively Speaking – Interview with Bethany Linz

A couple of weeks ago I posted on the beautiful work of Bethany Linz who has worked as a designer for the Fabric house Mokum and collaborated with iconic Australian designers such as Catherine Martin.  Well I am really excited that Bethany has agreed for me to interview her.  Soooo…. time to grab a cup of tea and biscuit, sit back and relax and read on! How would you describe your work and style?  “When I was at art school the other student’s nicknamed me Victoria. I love Wil

Little Chocolate Cherry Brownies and a Charity Bake Off

Every year we run a charity bake-off “bake master” which is a little spin on the TV series Masterchef.  The idea is for each team to come up with  a theme, bake away and raise as much cash for the chosen charity of the year!  This year it was The Fred Hollows Foundation which is a charity which helps to restore sight to disadvantaged communities in Australasia and Africa.  This year we raised just short of $5,000 which is pretty amazing. Fred Hollows Fair to say though, this

Creatively Speaking – Interview with Marcello and Bruce “Little Owl”

Friday is here again and it is time to put on the kettle and make yourself a nice cup of tea for another interview with a creative partnership of Marcello and Bruce that is “Little Owl”. Work by Julian Schnabel We thought of reversing the process, and putting the paintings on the plates, not broken of course. The idea took some time to evolve, and even now two years on we continue to discover new ways of combining the two mediums together. Little Owl’s personal collection You

Creatively Speaking – Interview with Tara Badcock

It is fair to say I love Tasmanian born Tara Badcock’s work, and it has featured in a few posts as testament to that.  So I am very excited that Tara agreed to do an interview for my little blog.  So are you sitting comfortably with a nice cup of tea, coffee or even glass of wine……. This is a long interview but Tara talks with such passion I could not bare to edit it out… It is so lovely to see someone so passionate about what they do!!! Lemon Drizzle Cake – Straight from the garden

Our little lemon tree at the bottom of the garden has been working over time and has produced an abundance of  fruit. Probably not surprising given the amount of rain that we seem to have had in Sydney recently.  So in homage to the lemon tree and the rain I thought I would make best use of the fruit and bake a home made lemon drizzle cake….so simple and yummy. (lemons from my garden) Lemon Drizzle Cake Ingredients 225g Unsalted butter (softened) 225g Caster sugar 4 Eggs Fine
