Claire Cole’s Embroidered Style – Sewing up your interior Part I

Traditionally the realm of grandmothers and great grandmothers alike, embroidery in the interior has certainly moved on from the cross stitch “Home Sweet Home” sign and a couple of monogramed hankies. I have blogged on a few that specialise in this area such as Tasmania’s Tara Badcock and Sydney’s Kristen Doran to name but a few, but the world of embroidery has begun to show it’s influence on other products……read on for some more of my favourite “Why did I not think of that” creatives.

Claire Cole

UK designer Claire Cole produces bespoke embroidered wallpapers for private clients and commercial projects. All wallpapers are designed and handmade in house. These luxury wallpapers are made to order. Working with traditional wallpaper imagery such as florals and birds, Claire’s creations are designed to grow and creep across the walls creating a romantic and dream like quality to the space.

Claire uses fragments of hand-sourced vintage wallpapers with silks and leather; these are layered and intricately embroidered to create a range of different scenes, patterns and illustrations, such as “Tropical Garden” above, and my personal faves “Midnight Garden” and “Poppy Garden” below.

There is also a little bit of beautiful tongue in cheek whimsicalness in the “Paris” design below…

Alongside this luxury collection of wallpapers, Claire has designed embroidered illustrations for a range of clients, these include Anthropologie, Paul Smith and Missoni. As well as launching a range of gift cards which are sold in shops across the UK. So for those who may not be able to stretch to the bespoke, and are not game enough to try a little wallpaper embroidery of their own, you can always invest in a little snippet available online. The pictures below would be very cute in a vintage girl’s room (big or little girls equally I hasten to add).

Or if you prefer to wear the embroidery why not invest in a brooch or two…they are definitely a step up from a monogrammed hankie.
