Saddle Up for Some Equestrian Styling….

OK so I feel a little bit of a fraud writing this post, despite growing up in the country, I have never been a particularly horsey kind of gal, and, I fear, the feeling is mutual given the number of times I was thrown into bramble bushes, or bitten on the foot…. Nowadays my equestrian knowledge takes me as far as the spring carnival racing with a couple of glasses of champers in hand and a hope and a prayer that I might pull a miracle tri fecta bet at the Melbourne cup – as i did this year when I accidently gave the gate numbers instead of the horse numbers and romped home (so yes my knowledge of this graceful creature leaves a little to be desired).

That is not to say that I cannot appreciate the finer side however, so “Tally Ho” to a touch of equestrian style… so straighten your saddle and strap up your boots….

What do you get the child who has everything?…… gone are the days of the racing car bed it seems… and roll in the horse lovers dream bedroom..  Although designed for a child by AltoModo, I would suspect many a horse loving adult would not be too unhappy to have this, or an equestrian themed hotel maybe….. I have to say at about A$20,000, I may be inclined towards something a little cheaper for a child that may run the risk of turning “Emo” or “Goth” on me and wanting to paint the thing black once they reach puberty!!!….. but that is not to say that a few ideas cannot be taken to create your perfect stable themed bedroom… at possibly a fraction of the price. But many of you out there may disagree….let me know your thoughts…….

For those of you who prefer a little more subtle equestrian, then here are a few ideas for bringing a little saddle into the home…..

Getting the look

Well for the real equestrian look you should be looking to the realms of the collectible shops, or second hand stores.  So not forgetting my friend Upcycle you can become sustainably equestrian.

WORKSHOPPED looks for and works with designers ready to take their ideas through to production, whether limited edition or mass production, and irrespective of production method. One such design literally has you siting in the saddle. Explore the whimsical and fun side of life with the Giddyup Rocking Stool.  Not just for kids this  chair offers you a more exciting way to sit, not to mention the work out.

Or for those of you who were a little more saddle adept than myself, maybe you could showcase your gymkana rosettes collecting dust in the attic….

or you can cheat and purchase some more classy versions from Tara Badcock below…

Or add a little Florence Broadhurst “Horse Stampede Print”, wallpaper, Fabric or cushions….

Or for the more creative amongst you you could take a leaf out of Tania McCarthy’s creative draw and transpose the print on to a chest of drawers.( click the link for a how too). Not too bad for a total revamp cost of A$50, you have got to be pleased with that

Or just simply style up your dinner table with these dinner plates from West Elm. Just dressing up your table with some autumnal foilage and some horseshoes (make sure they are the right way up) surrounding church candles would look fab…… So what are you waiting for, get on that saddle and win yourself a couple of rosettes!!!

On with the colourful journey……………..
